Membership Spotlight: Katrina Young
Q: What inspired you to attend Clark Atlanta University (CC, AU, or CAU, and how did your time there shape who you are today?
A: I was inspired to attend Clark College because of its strong reputation as a leading HBCU in Mass Communications. I knew I wanted to attend an HBCU, and Clark offered the perfect balance of academic excellence, cultural pride, and opportunity.
My time at Clark College truly shaped me by strengthening my confidence as a writer and teaching me the value of engaging with people from all walks of life. I also learned the importance of perseverance and never giving up, no matter the challenge. Beyond academics, I was able to serve in several campus leadership roles, which allowed me to grow personally and professionally.
Attending Clark College was truly life changing. It was a transformational experience that molded me into the person I am today, instilling in me a strong sense of purpose, leadership, and commitment to excellence.
Q: How has being part of the CAU alumni network, especially in the Carolinas, impacted your personal or professional journey?
A: Freshman Orientation Week will always hold a special place in my heart. From the excitement of engaging with classmates as we began our journey together, to proudly wearing the beanies that identified us as freshmen, to experiencing the largest block party I had ever attended—it all still resonates with me. Those early moments created a sense of belonging and community that stayed with me throughout my time at Clark.
Q: Can you share a memorable experience or tradition from your time at CAU that still resonates with you?
A: Wearing the beanies that identified us as freshmen, to the excitement of the largest block party I had ever attended, all still resonates with me.
Q: What advice would you give to current CAU students or recent graduates navigating life after college?
A: The advice I would give to current CAU students or recent graduates is to have confidence that you are prepared for whatever comes next. Enjoy the journey, because you are already ready to succeed - you have been preparing for greatness. Remember, you can pivot without frustration because your foundation is solid—and as our motto reminds us, “Find a Way or Make One.”
Most importantly, never forget where you came from. Come back often to get renewed and refueled, because your CAU family will always make sure you’re good.
